Guangzhou Evergrande scored two goals to win their first match of the Chinese Super League season against Shanghai SIPG at the Guangzhou Evergrande Arena on Wednesday.
The opening goal came from Guo Zhasong, who slotted home a penalty after he was fouled by Zhang Kunpeng. The second goal came from Wu Jingyu, who converted a free-kick to give Guangzhou the lead.
It was a solid start for Guangzhou as they dominated the game and created numerous opportunities to score more goals. However, they were unable to convert those chances into goals.
Shanghai SIPG did have a few chances to equalize but they couldn't capitalize on them. Their goalkeeper Lin Yu had a busy night with several saves to keep his team in the game.
Despite not scoring any goals themselves, Guangzhou's performance was impressive as they played well defensively and created plenty of chances.
Overall, it was a good start for Guangzhou in the Chinese Super League season. They will be hoping to continue their good form in their next match against Jiangsu Sainty.
